Fascinated by Reggio Emilia / Fascinada per Reggio Emilia

I've recently discovered the Reggio Emilia Approach and I must say that I am fascinated by it. I'm trying to read and learn as much as I can about it, but consistency is not one of my virtues. Actually, I'm reading 5 books at the same time. Two about Montessori, another one about bilingualism, another one about Reggio Emilia (In the Spirit of the Studio) and A. S. Neill's book about Summerhill. I have them scattered in different rooms of the house and I read them whenever I have a spare minute. I know it would be more practical to read one book at a time, but they are too interesting to choose one!! In any case, I am aware that I will have to change my technique one day or another.

Well, the thing is that, since I read Bringing Reggio Emilia Home, by Louise Boyd Cadwell, I'm trying to present Aitana with as many media (or languages) as possible.



Recentment he descobert l'enfocament ReggioEmilia, i he de dir que em té fascinada. Estic intentant llegir i aprendre tant com puga sobre ell, però la consistència no és una de les meues virtuts. En realitat, estic llegint 5 llibres a la vegada. Dos de Montessori, un altre sobre bilingüisme, una altre de Reggio Emilia (In the Spirit of the Studio) i el llibre sobre Summerhill de A.S. Neill. Els tinc dispersos en diferents habitacions de la casa i els llegeisc cada vegada que tinc un minut lliure. Sé que seria més pràctic llegir un llibre només, però són massa interessants com per triar un!! En qualsevol cas, sóc conscient que hauré de canviar la meua tècnica un dia o altre.

Bé, la cosa és que, des que vaig llegir Bringing Reggio Emilia Home, de Louise Boyd Cadwell, estic tractant de presentar a Aitana tants mitjans de comunicació (o llengües) com siga possible.

As Louise Cadwell often points out in her book, "all children have the right to work and play with a wide range of the highest-quality materials in the highest-quality settings".

Com diu sovint Louise Cadwell al seu llibre, "tots els xiquets i xiquetes ténen el dret de treballar i jugar amd una àmplia varietat dels materials de la millor qualitat en els ambients/espais de millor qualitat"

Ode to a butterfly / Oda a una papallona

"Mira, mare, una papallona". Pot semblar-vos que només és un pegot de plastilina rosa, però en realitat és una de les primeres vegades que Aitana crea alguna cosa que a propòsit s'assembla a la realitat. Podeu imaginar l'alegria que he sentit en veure-la.
I aquesta obra d'art (una obra mestra, diria jo), m'ha recordat les cent llengües dels xiquets i xiquetes de les que parla l'enfocament Reggio Emilia.

"Look, mummy, a butterfly". It may look to you it is just a blot of pink plasticine, but this is actually one of the first times Aitana creates something which purposefully resembles reality. You may imagine the joy I've felt at the sight of it.

And this work of art (a masterpiece, I would say), has brought to my mind the hundred languages of children and the Reggio Emilia Approach.

Loris Malaguzzi, el fundador d'aquestos centres de preescolar, va dir que els xiquets i xiquetes utilitzen un centenar de llengües en la seva recerca per construir relacions un amb l'altre, amb els adults, i amb el món natural que els envolta. Mitjans com ara argila, pintura al tremp, aquarel·la, fil, teixit, el collage, els materials naturals, de cartró / cartolina, i la llum, el color i la transparència en la taula de llum, juntament amb les paraules, música, moviment, joc dramàtic, els números, els blocs de construcció i el teatre d'ombres són les cent llengües dels xiquets i xiquetes. Tots aquests mitjans de comunicació tenen el poder d'atraure els nens perquè són una eina que els permet comprendre millor el món que els envolta.

Loris Malaguzzi, the founder of these preschools, said that children use a hundred languages in their search to build relationships with each other, with adults, and with the natural world around them. Media such as clay, tempera paint, watercolour, wire, weaving, collage, natural materials, cardboard/construction paper, and light, colour and transparency at the light table, alongside words, music, movement, dramatic play, numbers, block construction and shadow play are the hundred languages of children. All of these media have the power to engage children because they are a tool which allows children to better understand the world around them.

Només un últim i encoratjador comentari : El començament de les escoles Reggio Emilia van ser escoles creades per pares i mares.

Just one last and encouraging remark: The beginnings of Reggio Emilia Preschools were parent-run schools.
